  • There are several kinds of guitars. The two main common ones are acoustic and electric. Within these two types of guitars lies different kinds of variations.

The most common guitar that many people have in their house is the acoustic guitar. It is the one that is made out of wood and varies in size. Parents usually buy their smaller kids small guitars so that they can actually play it. The size of a guitar for a kids is about 30 centimeters long and have very thin strings. Adults usually use the average size one which is about a meter long.

The nice thing about the acoustic guitar is that is does not have to be connected to a power supply and you can actually carry it when you travel. People like to take it to parties but most of all many people love the idea of taking it when they go camping in the summer.

There are a number of guitars that fall into the acoustic guitar group. Here is a small list of them:

    Flamenco acoustic guitar:

The kind of guitar is very close to the classical one but a little slimmer. It produces a crisper sound. A flamenco guitar is a type of guitar, built for the purpose of playing Flamenco music. Flamenco guitar can also refer to toque, the guitar-playing part of the art of Flamenco.

    Classical acoustic guitar:

This type of guitar is what most beginners choose to use and it is played sitting down. It has a modern guitar shape. The individual strings are usually plucked with the fingers or the fingernails as opposed to using a plectrum.

    Twelve strings acoustic guitar:

The twelve string guitar is an acoustic guitar with twelve strings, which produces a richer and more ringing tone than a standard six string guitar. It’s a type of guitar with a natural chorus effect due to the subtle differences in string timbre.

    Resonator acoustic guitar:

A resonator guitar is an acoustic guitar whose sound is produced by one or more metal cones or resonators instead of the wooden soundboard. A resonator guitar is usually played by blues guitar players.

Learning to play the guitar is all about having fun. If you aren’t, then what’s the point? There are a good amount of guitar lessons online that you will need to pay money for if you want to get started.

Falling in Love With the Wrong Woman - Make Sure it Doesn’t Happen to YOU!

    3 février, 2010

What could be worse than having no girlfriend at all?

How about falling in love with the WRONG woman?

More guys have gotten into trouble over a woman than anyone can really put a number on. It happens all of the time. A guy falls for a girl and lets go of reason and the next thing he knows, he’s either up to his neck in debt or he’s banging his head against the wall, waiting for a few precious moments to have some time away from her.

Some guys get so used to it, it’s what they expect from relationships with women. Let’s not even get into the situations where a woman will get a guy into fights and other situations that are completely more drama than what they are worth.

So, how can you make sure that you don’t end up falling for the WRONG woman?

    1. Get some experience with women.

A lot of guys that end up with the wrong woman do so because they don’t have enough experience dating a variety of women. The more experience that you can get and the more variety that you can get a taste from, the less likely it is that you will end up allowing yourself to be with the wrong woman. Why would you when you would have the confidence that you can go out there and attract a woman that doesn’t have the baggage, the drama, and the hold over you and your credit card?

    2. Make her work for YOUR approval.

Most guys will do all that they can to win approval for a woman. This is usually when they fall into the trap of doing things that they don’t want to or would never do just to win her over. If you turn things around and make her work for your approval, not only will this be a challenge to her, but also, you will be setting things off on a much better ground than pulling out your credit card or doing something stupid just to make her like YOU.

    3. Never settle for less than what you expect.

This comes down a lot to your self confidence and your expectations of what you should get from a woman. If you don’t let your expectations fall too low, then you will not put up with some of the garbage or the baggage that the WRONG woman can try to throw on you. You have to make sure you keep your standards high, and not just in the way that she looks.

Losing Weight – How to Handle Your Cravings

    31 janvier, 2010

You shouldn’t be hungry. You’ve just had lunch an hour ago, and it was a substantial meal. You had good portions and you ate until you were almost full, but you’re definitely feeling like having something more. Maybe nothing big, a snack or a bowl of cereal, but you definitely want to eat something. This is a classic case of having a craving, and it’s one of the most frustrating challenges people have to battle while trying to lose weight.

An overactive appetite isn’t easily ignored. It can be distracting and irritating until it’s satisfied and so many people give in ‘just the once,’ only to eventually form craving-oriented habits that sabotage their efforts to eat well and maintain a healthy weight.

    I’m Hungry!

Well, are you really? Food cravings often are not the same as genuine hunger. There are a number of factors that determine whether you actually feel hungry or just desire a certain taste or boost. The key lies in determining the difference between physical hunger and a mental craving.

Hunger is marked by physical symptoms. Your body is telling you it needs something to keep your system running properly. These symptoms include:

    • Emptiness or tightness in the stomach, frequently accompanied by growling.

    • Dizziness or trouble focusing.

    • Exhaustion.

These symptoms do not respond to waiting or distraction, but continue to intensify until you have eaten sufficient food to correct the imbalance.

By contrast, cravings are marked by primarily emotional and psychological criteria, such as:

    • Desire to eat something with a specific taste.

    • Wanting to eat something to unwind, as a reward, or for comfort.

    Causes of Cravings

Genuine hunger is caused by genuine need – your body lacks vital nutrients, and will continue to tell you so until these needs are met and it can continue to function. Cravings, on the other hand, tend to be caused by a number of non-vital but nonetheless important stimuli.

For example, hormone imbalances can lead to hunger cravings. The body’s primary boosting hormone is serotonin, which is part of what leads to feelings of happiness and satisfaction. If the body is low on this hormone for any reason, including exhaustion, depression, pre-menstrual syndrome, or menopause, it could look for a substitute in sugar, which tends to provide a quick energy boost. Cravings also grow out of (and into!) habits. If you’re used to having a late night dish of ice cream and then stop in an attempt to control your weight or blood sugar, your body will be used to the routine and may trigger a craving for the snack at your usual time.

    Craving Control

First, you need to understand that having cravings does not mean you have poor willpower. In many cases, they’re not about willpower at all. They’re often just an emotional response to factors influencing your mental state. So don’t start with personal recriminations, instead focus on ways you can make things easier for yourself.

As with any effort to gain self-control, it is more efficient to replace bad habits with good habits than to simply try to drop the old habit. Consider that late night bowl of ice cream we mentioned earlier. This is a case of habitual cravings and snacking, and maybe it would be hard to just cut it out. Consider instead having a warm mug of a sweet herbal tea with a little bit of honey. This gives your body the ‘sweet’ taste it wants, as well as filling your belly with something to tide you over, but without the concentrated calories of the ice cream.

This substitution principle can work out well in general – keep healthy snacking alternatives on hand, and try to reduce portions. Instead of munching through a bag of chips, try eating a small serving of healthy nuts with a tall glass of water, then waiting and seeing if the craving abates.

    Consider these other craving-taming techniques:

    • Incorporate additional healthy habits into the rest of your routine, so that cravings will become less pronounced.

    • Eat high fiber foods, because these add bulk and a sense of fullness for a longer period of time.

    • Make sure your body is getting good nutrition in general, as a healthy body is less likely to mix up signals and send false cravings.

    • Exercise and socialize, to make sure your mental state is kept up and you don’t feel as stressed. Many cravings are a stress reaction, and keeping a healthy mental balance can certainly help.

Taking control of cravings is an important step in changing from unhealthy habits to healthy ones, and it can be daunting. However, it is a challenge that can be met one step at a time, in small degrees. Don’t beat yourself up for the cravings; instead, look at them for what they are, and know that you can take positive steps to keep them under YOUR control, where they belong.

    Australians rack up record debt

    29 janvier, 2010

Australian households are in record levels of debt, and for the first time have surpassed American levels.

Reserve bank figures show household debt - the combination of personal and mortgage debt - is equivalent to Australia’s GDP.

That means every adult owes an average of $74,000.

Analysts warn that the financial crisis that rocked Main Street in America could well hit Australian families in 2010.

Economics Professor Steve Keen at the University of Western Sydney says it is a sign that families are under financial stress.

“We now have an enormous proportion of income that has to be devoted to paying back interest payments,” he said.

“Even if you leave aside the interest payment fact, if you want to reduce your debt now where it would have taken you on average for Australians back in 1990 it would have taken just a few months, now it would take them a year to get back down to the zero mark.”

However the Council of Social Service says there is already a debt crisis and it will only get worse unless the Federal Government steps in, with the numbers of new families asking charities for help set to increase next year.

The council’s director, Alison Peters, says the Government needs to boost its support.

“We think there needs to be more support given to organisations like local neighbourhood centre like the major charities to be able to assist those people who are really desperate for assistance,” he said.

“A number of our organisations have already reported to us and indeed to the Government that they are seeing not only new families coming forward seeking assistance but many families are coming back again and again for assistance because they really are struggling.”

Steps to Losing Weight and Keeping It Off

    26 janvier, 2010

What is the true key to weight loss? Is it knowing exactly what to eat? How far to run? How to mix HCG? Or is it knowing how to control the urges that force us to eat when were stressed out?

The truth is, if you knew the exact key how to safely loss the exact amount of weight you wanted you could package your secrets and sell them to the highest bidder. Nobody exactly knows the best way to lose weight. Sure, the good ol’ “eat well and exercise” works well, but without proper planning it won’t keep the weight off. And with the New Year’s resolution season coming up, its worth taking a look at the best ways to not only lose your target weight but also keep it off.

Any good weight loss plan starts with both eating well and finding an exercise program that works for you. The worst thing you can do is start your diet by saying “I’m going to eat nothing but veggies and brown rice and I’m going to run three miles every day”. That’s just not going to happen on a consistent basis. Aiming high is a great idea, except that it will burn you out within a few days.

Instead of going for the gold right away (no pun intended), begin by making small goals for yourself. Start out by walking 30 minutes a day four days a week. Then, after a few weeks, maybe run 2 days a week and walk another three. You can add some calisthenics in after a few weeks. Always check your heart rate and make sure you stay hydrated no matter what you do.

The same moderation should be used when trying to map out a meal plan to go along with your exercise. First, think about portion sizes. American’s have a tendency to eat portion sizes that dwarf those in the rest of the world. Steak serving sizes should only be about the size of a playing card, not the size of a small truck. Instead of loading your plates with carbs such as pasta and potatoes, instead start eating vegetables with lemon and olive oil. Instead of soda drink natural juices or water. If you must, a diet soda can be utilized.

Next, set realistic goals for yourself. If proper diet and exercise is utilized you can expect to lose 2-4 pounds a week. After a few weeks you might see a drop off in the amount lost, but that’s only natural. Maybe start some weight training to get some definition. The key is making it fun. If you don’t enjoy the process and have some fun it you’re going to slip. That’s how you gain the weight back.

Losing Weight – Redirecting Your Snacking Habit

    24 janvier, 2010

Snacking is a pretty natural impulse. While we may be accustomed to three meals a day as a standard practice, our body is actually functioning nonstop. It will process food whenever it’s put into the system, and it uses up energy without ceasing. Even when you’re asleep, your brain is drawing on your body’s energy reserves.

So it really shouldn’t be a surprise that we find ourselves hungry between our regularly scheduled meals. Instead of providing a steady, reasonable supply of nutrients for our system to constantly work on, we often cram it with large doses that it has to work overtime to process at three intervals. The result typically is highs and lows of sugar and energy, and we get snack cravings.

When integrated into a larger proper diet, snacking is not a bad thing and actually can be quite healthy. Snacks help even out those crash periods between meals, allowing your body to function more steadily. The key is that we often choose to snack on unhealthy foods heavy in sugars and calories, but low on overall nutrients. By making a few simple changes, you can turn your snacks into an ally rather than a hindrance.

Take on some smart snacking tactics—like the ones highlighted here—for six weeks to kick-start a lifelong habit of healthy eating and feeling great.

    Snack Habit #1 – A Healthy Sandwich

The first snack you should consider is a whole grain sandwich. The contents are up to you, but there are a few simple guidelines. Meats should be low in fat, such as turkey or chicken breast. Lettuce is great filler, as are sliced green or red peppers. Go easy on the condiments, as these can sneak carbohydrates into your system without your realizing it.

The fiber in whole grain breads helps slow digestion and promotes fullness, meaning you won’t get hungry as often. The carbohydrates in the bread will give you an energy pickup as well, keeping you alert and ready for your day.

This is a very easy habit to get into, requiring only a few minutes each day. Make your sandwich for the next day every night, and cut it in half so you can enjoy it at two different snack times. Put it somewhere you’ll remember to grab it, and you’re ready to go. Definitely go for some variety as well. There are many sandwich recipes out there, and part of successfully adopting new habits is making sure they’re fun and interesting for you, as well as beneficial.

As for people who cannot process wheat flour, consider breads made with almond flour. This is a delicious gluten-free flour that won’t interfere with your wheat allergies, and still let you take advantage of a snack sandwich.

Snack Habit #2 – Go a Little Nuts

Another great snack to focus on is a serving of healthy nuts. Nuts tend to be high in fat content, meaning they’re an easy source of quick energy when you’re feeling a bit of a slump. These fats are also usually mono-unsaturated fats, which are ‘good’ fats responsible for lowering LDL cholesterol levels. This means a small handful of nuts between your bigger meals can quell sugar cravings while keeping you healthy.

Hazelnuts, almonds, and peanuts are very nutrient-rich snacks, and are easily available. Getting into a nutty habit is also really easy. Just pack a few small bags of nuts at the beginning of your week, and bring them with you on your daily tasks. Try to focus on low salt varieties of course, for the sake of preventing high blood pressure.

Snack Habit #3 – The Sugar YoYo and Yogurt

Sometimes all your body wants and needs is a quick sugar boost, and only sugar is going to help it. However your source of sugar doesn’t have to be a highly processed candy bar or can of soda.

At the beginning of your week, buy a few cups of yogurt in flavors you like. Yogurt is high in pro-biotics that promote digestive health, as well as other important nutrients based on the fruit content in the cup. If your body starts to crash, having a handy pick me up like a yogurt cup means you can snack quickly and get yourself back on track.

One word of caution: Many yogurts can be high in sugar and sugar syrups such as high fructose corn syrup. This is less ideal than if the sugar comes from the fruit itself. Check the list of ingredients, and if corn syrup or sugar is in the first three ingredients, pass it up.

Snack Habit #4 – Snack Pack

The key to forming good habits is making sure they’re practical. If you try to make healthy snacks, but they keep spoiling or getting too warm to be palatable, you’re probably going to give up before making it a habit. Consider buying yourself a small cooler or insulated bag to pack your snacks in. This will help keep everything at an even temperature, making the snacks crisp and tasty enough to enjoy, as well as storing them in a convenient place.

You probably didn’t expect to be encouraged to keep snacking, did you? Actually one of the best ways to build a healthy lifestyle is to take the habits you already have, such as snacking, and turn them in healthier directions. This empowers you to easily adopt positive habits that fit within your life instead of allowing bad habits to takeover. Consider trying out these steps for six weeks, and the results will speak for themselves.

Swine flu vaccine preparation ramps up: US health official

    16 janvier, 2010

WASHINGTON (AFP) — The United States will commit one billion dollars toward the purchase of ingredients for a swine flu vaccine, Washington’s top health official said Sunday as US deaths from the virus continued to mount.

“There will be another one billion dollars worth of orders placed to get the bulk ingredients for an H1N1 vaccination,” Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told CNN television Sunday, adding that the final vaccine likely will be ready by October.

“Congress has agreed with the president that this is the number one priority, keeping Americans safe and secure,” she said, adding that US scientist are working “to get the shots in folks’ arms.”

Her remarks came as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed 211 US deaths from the A(H1N1) virus, with some 37,000 cases confirmed — the highest level of death and infection of any country in the world.

Officials have warned that the virus could return with a vengeance in the the coming months. The virus, already deemed at pandemic levels by global health experts, is in more than 100 countries and is continuing to spread.

Last week, Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said clinical trials on a first candidate vaccine were expected to begin in August.

The tests would take “a couple of months” to determine whether the vaccine is safe and effective and what the appropriated dosage would be, Fauci said at a medical conference.
