Richard Branson Wants to Build the World's Most Eco-Friendly Hotel

For sustainably savvy travelers the choices in high-end, ecologically friendly travel are growing everyday.

For many resort owners and operators, it’s a matter of common sense because green efforts can cut costs while attracting new clients.

For those who travel first class, it’s a chance to help the planet without giving up an once of luxury or comfort.

You probably won’t be surprised to learn British tycoon Sir Richard Branson is in the midst of creating what he calls “the most environmentally-friendly resort on the globe.�

Branson, is building the resort on Mosquito Island in the BVIs.

The development will feature twenty villas and a beachfront restaurant, powered entirely by wind turbines and solar panels. All motorized transport will be powered by biofuels; the guests’ food would come from a local, organic orchard.

Other internationally acclaimed luxury hotels that have a focus on sustainability include:

Tortuga Bay at PUNTACANA Resort & Club in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, which offers a 1500 acre ecological reserve and park

Tabacón Grand Spa Thermal Resort in Arenal, Costa Rica, which focuses on protecting and improving the Arenal Volcano, surrounding rainforest and the Tabacon Hot Springs

The Racha in Koh Racha Yai, Phuket, Thailand, which offers environmentally-friendly design and a comprehensive waste recycling program

King Pacific Lodge in North Vancouver, British Columbia, which is actively involved with protecting the surrounding Pacific Northwest’s temperate rainforest, utilizes hydro-power and solar panels for energy, and also offsets the greenhouse gas emissions associated with its guests’ air travel to and from the area

Inkaterra Machu Picchu in Machu Picchu, Peru, which is powered with hydro-electricity, works with local communities to promote reforestation, practices recycling, and is carbon neutral.

Right now, there are about 75 eco-friendly resorts at Kiwi Collection , the world’s largest independent luxury hotel reviewer.

These days there’s no reason travelers should ‘resort’ to choosing unsustainable accommodations when they can choose to go green.

Acne Scars

Acne is an inflammation of the skin that affects people from every country and every culture around the world. In the US, acne is predominantly thought of as a teenage dilemma, as more than eighty percent of teens and preteens will develop some form of acne. However, the condition certainly affects a large number of adults and even infants. The scientific name for the condition is acne vulgaris because acne usually strikes in plainly visible locations such as the face, neck, chest and back. There are various types of acne that range in annoyance, severity, and healing time. The most severe type of acne may even lead scars that if not treated properly, may be visible for a lifetime. If you or a loved one is troubled by severe acne, here’s what you need to know about acne scars and what you need to do to avoid and care for them.

How Does Acne Form?

Contact with an oily substance such as mineral oil, vegetable oil, or petroleum is a potential cause of acne, as is the use of certain medication and steroids. However, acne is most often cause by the secretion of androgens. Acne is also aggravated by milk or dairy products, red meat and fast food. Androgens are sex hormones that are initially secreted at the onset of puberty. They are male hormones but they are secreted by females as well. Androgens stimulate the production of oil from the skin’s oil glands. Acne occurs when these overactive oil glands become blocked, causing the oil to build up in the gland and swell. A bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes normally colonizes this swollen gland causing the development of inflammation and pus. In particularly severe cases, the glands may burst into the skin and produce cysts.

Types Of Acne

Acne blemishes are categorized into four grades, ranging from mild to very severe.

Grade I: Mild acne falls into this category. People with grade I acne generally have blackheads and whiteheads but pimples are not present.

Grade II: The condition is considered moderate acne when blackheads, whiteheads, and small pimples are present, but they are confined to the face and the inflammation they cause is minimal.

Grade III: Severe acne includes blackheads, whiteheads, and deeper pimples with more pronounced swelling.

Grade IV: acne is considered very severe when it occurs on the face, neck, shoulders, chest, and back. Pustules and deeper cysts occur with very severe acne and scarring may result if the condition is not cared for properly.

Preventing Acne Scars

The most important rule for acne sufferers to remember is that you should never pick or squeeze acne blemishes. This can lead to the spread of acne and the development of acne scars. Instead, there are a number of herbal, homeopathic, and traditional formulas that can be used to treat acne and prevent the development of acne scars. Herbs work naturally with the body to reduce acne blemishes and prevent the development of acne scars. Echinacea and poke root are often used for their anti-inflammatory properties and red clover may be beneficial for its estrogenic action. Witch hazel has excellent astringent properties and may be very effective on acne.

Costa Blanca, Still the Expats Choice

Unless you have been hiding under a rock recently, it should be fairly common knowledge to realise that the once booming property market in Spain has been experiencing a fairly dramatic slow down as competition hots up from some of emerging areas of Europe.

Indeed in the North Costa Blanca with its beautiful towns of Javea, Denia, Moraira and Calpe, the particular area where I live and run an Estate Agency, Spain has been guilty of “shooting itself in the foot” by allowing such issues as “land grab” to become major concerns to potential buyers, particularly in the Comunidad de Valencia.

It has also reacted very slowly to some of the dreadful publicity that this has generated by the media and has taken far too long to sort out individual cases.

The North Costa Blanca, along with many other coastal resorts has seen massive over building of apartments, townhouses, bungalows and villas with the Spanish clearly believing that North Europeans will continue to flood the area in their droves.

The reality is that Spanish property is simply not as cheap as it used to be. In the towns of Javea and Moraira for example, villas, apartments, bungalows and townhouses have been built by the hundreds and this has had a dramatic effect on the investment market in particular as it is now very difficult to make short term gains due to the number of properties that are for sale.

However, Spain and in Particular the Costa Blanca and Costa Del Sol is now a sophisticated modern country offering a very high standard of living and quality of life within a politically and economically stable environment.

Education, healthcare and communications are excellent and are combined with a superb climate, lower crime rates than Northern Europe and a native population that are welcoming and willing to share their country. So with this in mind, towns such as Javea & Moraira should be expensive places to live, ranking alongside those in the UK and Germany.

Forecasting any property market is difficult and a consolidation of house prices had to happen especially when you consider that Spanish salaries are not too different to what they were in 1997! Sooner or later the gap becomes too big as many Briton’s will remember from the late 1980’s.

This does not mean however that there has or will be a crash. It simply means that a period of realignment is needed as property prices stabilise and remain static for a period. This can also be a good thing, acting as a spur to better building and encouraging areas such as the Costa Blanca to heed the lessons of the past from other areas of the country.

Irrespective of short term investment pitfalls, the fundamentals of Spain will remain solid. The wonderful climate, stunning scenery, quality infrastructure and proximity to the UK will ensure that Spain will always be one of the top destinations of expats. The towns of Javea, Moraira and Denia are a good example of some of the stricter planning laws now in place.

Apartment complex’s can only be built 4 stories high and local town hall’s are committed to preserving green areas. This all helps make the Costa Blanca an ideal location for a holiday home or permanent re-location. In fact, in a recent survey carried out by Barclay’s bank, the number of Brit’s owning a property abroad is forecasted to double from 2.2 million to 4.4 million over the next decade of which 30% will head to Spain.

These purchasers will be buying into a life style, and the benefits of picking an area such as the Costa Blanca are self-evident as there is no doubt that the area offers a secure, long term future for property owners.

As in any country, the buying and selling of property is a serious business, particularly that property markets are rarely stable for long. But as a buyer who carries out proper research and purchases through the proper channels using reliable lawyers, then you should be able to sit and watch short term fluctuations whilst enjoying the fruits and life style of a great long-term investment.

Acne Program Step 6 Juices You Should Be Drinking

Drinking fruit juices help to bring vitamins and minerals quickly into your blood where they can supply what is necessary for acne free skin. Minerals quickly neutralize skin acids and bring the skin pH back to normal - slightly acidic.

Orange and grapefruit

Prepare half and half of orange and grapefruit juice using a hand juicer. The flavor is extremely tasty. The combination of these two fresh fruits will give you a powerful start in the morning. They will give you a vitamin C boost with plenty of flavanoids and minerals.

These combined fruits will cleanse your intestinal tract, help in blood disorders, liver disorders, lung disorders and skin infections.

Orange and lemon juice

Mix 3 parts of orange juice with one part lemon juice. Add a little water and honey and put into a thermos. Drink the juice all day long for glowing skin.

Lemon juice helps the skin to rejuvenate and grow new skin. It helps the skin to flake off old skin and improve the skin’s metabolism.

We live in an age where the spirit of care free travel is almost extinct. Travelers these days are armed to the teeth with credit cards, travel insurance and Lonely Planet Guides. Yet it was not always so. For millennia pilgrims, bards and nomads have traveled the globe living only on their wits. From Jesus to Jack Kerouac travelers have hit the road with little more than the clothes on their back and embarked on amazing journeys. 

So if you’re planning to trust in the gods and head off with just a few coins in your pocket the resources below will help you along your way.

Millennia before the Lonely Planet claimed to show travelers how to ‘travel on a shoestring’, people had long been hitting the road with barely enough bread for that day. Whilst we now live in the age of consumer travel, the greater part of travel has always been hand-to-mouth and, in fact, continues to be so – ask any immigrant who just jumped the fence into the First World.

Remember that travel is about give and take. If you travel hand to mouth then you will be receiving a lot of help and kindness from people along the way. Do your best to make sure you have something to give also, be it a song, a story or just lots of really positive energy.
